The Bengaluru Central Crime Branch police on Wednesday detained a 25-year-old computer programmer for allegedly hacking various government websites besides helping drug peddlers from the city to secure through the dark web.
The CCB caught the hacker while they were interrogating eight men, including Congress Dalit leader’s son Darshan Lamani involved in the procurement of drugs through the dark web last week.
Darshan Lamani was arrested for sheltering and hosting two of his friends who turned out to be drug peddlers in Goa.
According to the police, the accused was identified as Srikrsihna aka Shreeki, a Jayanagar resident from town.
Talking to media persons, Bengaluru Police Commissioner Kamal Pant stated that the accused is a really good computer programmer, had he used those skills in a favorable direction, but sadly, he’s proven to be playing at the hands of drug peddlers.
“He hacked numerous websites, online gaming portals, and made illegal profits. He’s also attempted to hack into government websites. In some cases, he’s succeeded too. He successfully hacked into, in Karnataka e-procurement website a while ago,” the commissioner revealed.
According to the authorities, Shrikrishna has an impressive biodata to trust in his claims as he did his three-year computer graduate programing in the Netherlands.
“He lived in Amsterdam for his research between 2014 to 2017. He studied in a reputable university on the market,” the authorities note revealed.
The authorities further added that following his return, he became a rogue hacker as he was hooked on HydroGanja consumption, which is readily available in Amsterdam across the counter in stores. “The Netherlands is among those few countries, where consumption of marijuana is legal,” an investigation officer told IANS.
During regular investigations of the eight men arrested in a drug case a week, the authorities often came across Shrikee’s name for helping them to supply hydro-ganja through the dark web.
Apart from helping them, Shreeki also hacked several gambling portals, especially online gambling portals and he used to collect those winning cards of players from portals and use the exact cards to secure bitcoins, which in turn were used to secure ganja through the dark web, the authorities explained his complex means of earning illegal gains through hacking skills.
Aside from that, he has hacked company websites to earn money by threatening them to destroy crucial data from servers, the authorities claimed.
This eight-member gang used to secure drugs throughout the dark web and revel in their life in lavish resorts and apartments in and around the city by coordinating high-profile rave parties.
The CCB caught among those accused in the case – Sujay out the Bengaluru Foreign Post Office with 500 gm of hydroponically-grown bud on November 9. 1 gram of the HydroGanja is estimated to cost between $27 to $41 on the market.
The CCB discovered that Sujay and his partners, Hemanth, Prasid Shetty and Suneesh Hegde – a real estate businessman and resident of Sadashivanagar – had supposedly purchased the bud on the darknet by paying bitcoins.
This case caught the public attention just after the CCB first picked up Congress Dalit leader and former minister Rudrappa Lamani’s son Darshan Lamani from Goa for allegedly sheltering his buddies.
Subsequently, the CCB, through investigation, came to know that the head constable of the Sadashivanagar Police Station, HC Prabhakar was suspended for allegedly conspiring with one of them accused and tipping them off since the CCB sleuths were on the watch for them. Further, the probe is on.
